What “We don’t do”

We all know how much freedom we can have during summer time. School’s just finished; a lot of catching up to do, shopping with mates, or just doing something fun. The more freedom we have, the more things we are tempted to do and sometimes we do things that we’re not too proud of.

Summer is fun why should I ruin it?

I remember the advice that URA STAR gave us when we were still at school about Anti Social Behaviour, Bullying, Alcohol, Pregnancy, Respect, The Dangers of carrying weapons etc. What I really remember is how life is a choice and that I need to make the right choice every time I’m faced with a decision to make. I have learnt to say “NO” when I need to, even if my mates are not happy with my decision.

At the end of the day, I am free to choose to do the right thing. I remember that time when my friends came back saying how right I was not to want to go for a drink in the park. It happened that the person they were trying to get to buy the drink for them in the shop was a policeman!!!

Well, like I said, life is a choice so make sure you choose what is right.

Father’s day…

This morning on twitter I was reading what people were twitting about father’s day. A lot of the twits were from the heart and sometimes it’s hard to find something good to say because some dad haven’t left many good memories for us to praise them for. Fact is, if it wasn’t for my dad, I wouldn’t be born. I wouldn’t have the chance to be the person I am.

There was a hashtag about #ilovemydadeventhough that was trending so I went there to read a few of them.
@cerysgibbins

#ilovemydadeventhough we have our arguments but he will always be there for me and i’m grateful to have a father like him. love you dad. ♥

@RoyallyMe_x
#ilovemydadeventhough he thinks every boy I text, call, or even talk to is my boyfriend…

LO_okAtMehNow
#ilovemydadeventhough he made some really bad decisions in the past.

@JASZ_mine
#ilovemydadeventhough ? No reasons needed. I love my daddy :’) he’s my superdaddy.

Eventhough dads can be difficult to understand sometimes, I realised that sometimes they go through hard time to please us or provide for us. They try to protect us and do what they can to keep us safe. Some of as don’t have a dad and maybe it can teach us to be better and set a good example. No matter what, without them we wouldn’t be. For this reason alone I can say:”I love you dad”.

Summer Time Oh my!

It feels good to see people wearing shorts and shirts, no sweaters! School is about to end, summer time oh my! Some plan to go on holidays somewhere nice, breathe some fresh air. What would be the new summer track? Is Justin still going to be the no.1? Let see.

This summer there’s some great things happening everywhere. BBQs, the park…. too bad there’s no sea in Birmingham. Going to the beach would have been good; listening to some music, ridding along the beach or getting a tan!

Summer time

In Birmingham URA STAR will be preparing some goodies. This year it’s all about what people want to do. There will be 2 open air shows and great stuff. Time to get the friends together again outside Twitter and Facebook.

When the sun comes up, everyone should be out there! Be safe! BTW, URA STAR is following anyone who’s following!

RAISING THE BAR – KeEpInG tHe StAr HigH!!

URA STAR is consolidating its position as the leading creative youth intervention provider in the West Midlands. To remain the best and the most effiecient platform for young people, we decided to reposition and reinvent ourselves!

Thursday 12 May. 11 a.m; this is where it starts. A meeting was organised between Social Media Consultant Chioma (also known as The FairyGodSister)  and Affi Luc from URA STAR ENTERPRISE. This was an opportunity to hear from an expert how best to respond to the needs of people (young and old) wanting to know what URASTAR is about, and how they can get involved!

Chioma conducted an audit to pinpoint the issues that were detracting from the organization’s potential to fully engage with it’s audience. Part two of the audit would be strategising for a rebirth!

Having gained great credibility through the work of its investigator Witness, URA STAR Enterprise has decided to go back to basics; getting in touch with the young people we’ve interacted with at various events organized in the last couple of years.

The platform for young people, by young people!

For this, they had one plan; creating new platforms including a Facebook group (URA STAR), and modifying some others like the Twitter account (@URA_STAR), the website (URA STAR ENTERPRISE.COM) and you to interact and share ideas.

URA STAR ENT as a social enterprise for young people wants to give you more power by enabling you to be part of the decision making in events and programmes concerning your wellbeing. That was the spirit behind the  We Don’t Do That  music video where people came to sing and campaign against anti social behaviors. Chioma insisted on opening all social media portals and website of URA STAR to this effect and encourage youth people to have their say, and guess what? We agree with her!

The results have been almost immediate. Within hours of following the recommendations, URA STAR had 14 new followers on Twitter and registered 85 news members to the newly created group. On Twitter, the intervention couldn’t have been more timely; URASTAR encouraged loads of students struggling to focus and feeling really down the night before their English GCSE. Just like we’d do back in the day!

It warmed my heart to hear back from one of the young people after the said GCSE exam, we had sent him messages like we did to everyone else. I thought I should reproduce the tweets….

Doing what we do!

This is what we’re here for guys. Talk to us; let us know how we can help you. Have you got any ideas? Any brain waves you think will better the lot of your mates? Holla! Have you interacted with URASTAR in anyway and want to share? Talk to us already! You are the Stars! Whoop Whoop!!
